Over sixty thousand immigrants became Swedish citizens in 2016, which is an increase of 25 percent from the previous year.
Exactly 60,343 foreign born became Swedish citizens, which is the highest number in one year. This has crossed the one million mark, according to the the state Statistics Sweden.

The largest group of Swedish citizenship in 2016 were previously citizens of Somalia, which accounted for 15 percent of the total.
The next most common were previously citizens of Syria. The data also shows that many former British citizens applied for and was granted Swedish citizenship during the second half of 2016, probably as a result of Brexit-vote.
Asylum seekers and Refugees
Despite the record number of granted Swedish citizenship during the last year, number of asylum seekers were recorded at 29 000 people, the lowest number since 2009.
